As part of the upcoming InterNations Relaunch, your individual member profile will also get a “face-lift”, so to speak.
Your new InterNations profile will strongly focus on what makes you a global mind: your personal expat experience and your international life and career.
What’s new?
In the new timeline, you can share your international history. Describe all your stays abroad, as well as your time back in your home country!
Be it work, travel, or other reasons for moving and visiting: you can use this feature to indicate where you have been, how long you lived there, and why you relocated.
The big world map in the header helps to visualize your timeline. It points out where you are right now and highlights every country where you have stayed so far.
Have your say!
The image below is just a first glance at the brand-new InterNations profile. To see the screenshot in full size, please click on the image!
Please take a look at this preview and let us know what you think. Just leave your feedback in a comment below.
What do you like about it? What could we do differently?

Thank you very much for giving us your feedback! Please understand that we cannot reply to each of you individually. However, we will read every comment and do our best to accommodate your feedback.
Ariane Simone de Kluyver says
I think it looks pretty cool. Very nice and easy to follow up. Congrats!
Margit says
@Ariane Simone de Kluyver:
Thank you for your nice feedback!
Curt Svelin says
The new timeline look great.
This field for our comment should show up directly after the studied object.
Margit says
@Curt Svelin:
Thanks for your feedback!
Sorry that the WordPress layout keeps pushing the comment field down to the bottom of the page. That’s a bit inconvenient indeed.
Jack Kilavuz says
Very nice, I like it!
Margit says
@Jack Kilavuz:
Thank you! That’s great to hear.
Sandra says
I like the the new design, great job! My only concern is the safety settings if I put so much info in my profile. And what about people who are not overseas for work, but as a spouse? Some of us organise charity work, or we are managing groups of interest. Any chance to put that sort of things in there?
Margit says
@Sandra:
Thank you for your feedback!
As for the privacy issues: 1) Most of the information you can see in the profile above is not mandatory. You can share as little or as much as you like.
2) There will still be privacy settings for sharing the info on InterNations, and no profile will be visible to search engines or external visitors.
And what about people who are not overseas for work, but as a spouse?
If you aren’t overseas for paid employment, but do volunteer work, then simply fill in this under the “working in…” field. Work is work – whether you’re getting paid for it or not!
Marc Mukuna says
very great header that can reflect global mind ! no complain at all !
Margit says
@Marc Mukuna:
Thanks for commenting! It’s nice to hear you like the new layout.
Chris says
The site looks better, clearer and better presentation.
The issue for me was never with the layout / look and feel of the site but more about how slow the site is – this is where you should concentrate.
Margit says
@Chris: Thanks for the honest feedback!
Noman says
Its good for a change …. liked the new look.
Margit says
@Noman: Thanks for the feedback! We’re happy to hear it.
Andreas Wiedow says
Great design.
Wish list:
#1 – Return of the ‘Guest Book’ (Privacy Settings y/n, mute function to block entries from individuals)
#2 – “Sharing is Caring” options also for profiles at profile owner’s discretion (Privacy settings y/n)
Margit says
@Andreas Wiedow: Thank you for commenting!
To the best of my knowledge, we aren’t planning to re-introduce the guest book, but I could add this to my feedback list for Product Development. As for the profile sharing, it seems to me that more people are concerned about already sharing too much information. But again, I’ll forward the suggestion for sure.
Nils Valentin says
Please make some parts optional.
– I dont want to see the twinkle button, can be blent it out ?
– make the menus usable from mobile phones
(currently its a pain to use !!)
– Danke / Thank you button to evaluate activities, events and /or consuls
– possibility to evaluate members that sign up but dont show up regularly
– suggestions and vote for activities
– remove consuls / ambassa dors that don’t reach their target
(what use of consuls that don’t plan activities ? )
– demoted consuls must not be able to become consul within 12 months (penalty)
– Consuls should be able to to search and mail those members in one step
Margit says
@Nils Valentin: Thank you for your feedback and your detailed suggestions!
– I’m afraid that the twinkle button can’t be hidden in the current profile design.
– We are working on a mobile-friendly version of the website in general, but the new profile design will probably be launched for desktop devices at first.
– Your other suggestions mostly concern Events & Activities. Are you perhaps a Group Consul yourself? Then it would make more sense to forward these suggestions directly to your contact in the Activity Groups team. Thanks!
Anatole Zavernyaev says
Looks fine to me.
Margit says
@Anatole Zavernyaev: Thank you for your feedback! That’s good to hear.
Stanislav KrTil says
Very well done. I found it attractive, away from any corporate look; plenty of self-help, tips, and advice; … yes I like it … Thank you. and BTW it takes many attempts to submit as the code is not showing …
Margit says
@Stanislav KrTil:
Thank you for your nice feedback!
Also, we’re sorry to hear about your difficulty in commenting – we’ll look into this matter.
Peter Brezina says
I am afraid that the list with planned travels and visits will be too long in some cases. I e.g. am travelling a lot and staying for one or two weeks in other town and Country. In case I would take it serious my list will last some pages of this. This might be to shorten in some way.
In my opinion it would be good also to be able for giving a short Statement or an adage similar like we can do this at Skype.
Please avoid any resembalance to facebook !
Margit says
@Peter Brezina:
Thank you for your feedback! That’s a very good point about the timeline.
Juan Carlos Moscato says
It looks good. More friendly and with more information about whom we are. Better!!
Margit says
@Juan Carlos Moscato:
Thank you! We’re glad to hear you like it.
Katya says
Hi, InterNations team! Thank you for this initiative, it is inspiring and exciting!
A lot of bright ideas already given by fellow members above. Let me emphasize some of them:
1) Privacy concern. What tools will help members to avoid disclosing all personal data in a profile? Fraud and scam risks are too high when so much personal data is exposed.
2) What will differentiate InerNations from Facebook/LinkedIn? I agree that should be about local communities around the globe. So where would I see activities/groups/interests/sports/charities etc of myself, of another person, our common interests etc? It doesn’t matter so much, where we lived/travelled before. Its important what are we doing now? And perhaps a bit about what we would like to do in near future.
3) Mobile is the future of e-commerce! Not many of us will be willing to spend more time sitting in front of a laptop/desktop than we do already. It will be great to have a faultless app to quickly load events/ messages/ news updates etc, when you are in a car, waiting in a queue etc.
Sincere regards and good luck, you are doing a great job, looking forward for our journey to an even better InterNations 🙂
Katya
Margit says
@Katya:
Thank you for your incredibly detailed feedback! I hope I can answer all your question to your satisfaction.
1) Privacy issues:
– Most of the information displayed in the profile isn’t mandatory. When you sign up, you’ll be asked to share your name, gender, date of birth, country of residence and country of origin — no timeline information at all. What you want to tell about your previous stays abroad and current life is up to you entirely.
– Secondly, these profiles are only visible to registered members – not to external visitors or Google.
– Moreover, there will still be privacy settings for what you’d like to share.
2) The screenshot linked above is only a member’s profile page. It’s not the startpage, where we will showcase the local aspect a bit more. Moreover, the screenshot of the profile page fades out at the bottom, unfortunately. Below the timeline, a member’s Activity Groups and general interests are still listed, so you could see easily if you have any hobbies etc. in common.
3) We’re working on a mobile-friendly version, especially for core features like Events & Activities.
Hope this information helps!
Lucio says
Lovely interface. Functional and nice looking.
Margit says
@Lucio:
Thank you! That’s good to hear. 🙂
Firdous says
It looks great and a lot of information about the person is on display. Very little is left to the imagination.
On the flip side, do you think such a lot of information should be available for everybody to see ??? Will it not cause Privacy Issues ??
My suggestion is that it should be available for viewing only to friends and / or contacts to take care of the privacy issue.
Otherwise it looks great
Margit says
@Firdous: Thanks a lot for your comment!
I hope I can address your concerns regarding privacy issues:
– Most of the information displayed in the profile isn’t mandatory. When you sign up, you’ll be asked to share your name, gender, date of birth, country of residence and country of origin — no timeline information at all. What you want to tell about your previous stays abroad and current life is up to you entirely.

Jeanne Heydecker says
I had a problem with Origin and Home Country. For me, Origin and Home Country would be the same, but in the screenshot, you have the UK expat stating Home country is UAE, even though Origin says UK. Not clear. I would remove home country all together since Origin is clearer to people who don’t use English as a first language.
Margit says
@Jeanne Heydecker:
Thanks for your the feedback on the wording issue! We should have another look at this.
Vipin Walter says
I don’t think we need another facebook like site, there is a definite need for a smartphone application.
The new look feels like copied, the best thing about internations is that, it is an events oriented social networking. Which calls for a different user experience compared to the existing social media websites.
Margit says
@Vipin Walter:
Thank you for your feedback! We are working on a mobile-friendly site for smartphones.
As for the screenshot above, please keep in mind that this is the new profile page – not the startpage. Our core features, like our international events, will definitely remain a central part of our user experience.
Peter says
It looks better than what we have today. A bit like Facebook. Will do the job for the bigger screens. What we really need is an good App for iPhone etc. !
Margit says
@Peter:
We are working on a mobile-friendly version, and we’ll keep you updated on this.
Rajesh Rane says
Suggestion:
– Having a section in new planned place to visit “Things that would Interest Me”. Here folks who have already been to that place could help with info specific to that persons interests. This would help in planning and knowing more about your new place to visit.
Margit says
@Rajesh Rane:
Thanks for your suggestion! A feature for either giving recommendations or looking for them seems to be pretty popular, so I’ll make sure to pass this on.
Ewa says
Looks much friendly user, clear and easy to navigate. Great job!
Margit says
@Ewa: thank you! Our Product Development team will be delighted to hear this.
Vincent says
Well done Internations design team!
It is a very neat and clean design. Now very much like Facebook timeline … (and that is not necessarily a bad thing. 🙂
Is there any way to incorporate Skype ID for calling/chat?
MSN, Facebook and a few other big social sites make it possible to connect via Skype and if this functionality can be added to Internations, I am quite sure that it’s appeal would grow exponentially.
Margit says
@Vincent:
Thanks a lot for commenting! I’m not quite sure if Product Development is planning to incorporate Skype IDs for the time being. More information on other social media sites (e.g. Twitter handles, Skype IDs, etc.) seems to be a big thing in any case.
Prachiti says
Hi, The new page looks simple and user friendly. I would like to see a tab where you can have recommendations, either about the member or about the places to visit recommended by the member. I know these both features are there on other sites eg. Linkedin and Tripadvisor. But I will prefer to trust the places recommended by my friends in Internations. Also we can think about having an app of Internations.
Margit says
@Prachiti:
Thanks for your suggestions! The “recommendations” feature (or a variation thereof) seems to be really popular.
As for the app: we are definitely working on a mobile-friendly site!
Ivi Ortega says
It looks better! At least in IOS…
Margit says
@Ivi Ortega: Thanks a lot! That’s great to hear.
Félix says
You’re doing a good job!!!!
Margit says
@Félix: Thank you for your nice comment!
Marine says
Hi y’all! Pretty layout. It is more pleasant to surf on such a page. Great job guys 😉
A quick glimpse allows to get many info without clicking everywhere.
Maybe I would have few suggestions though.
But before I post it, I would be keen on discovering the use of the button “More”. What could we do in this tab?
(Sorry if this question has been asked already)
Margit says
@Marine: Thanks for commenting!
And no, the question about the “More” button hasn’t been asked yet. It simply hides all other profile-related features that are used less rarely than connect, twinkle, or message — for example, the “report abuse” feature for profiles that are obviously spammy/fake/or might be a case of identity theft.
Ashraf M Ibrahim says
Very nice congratulations
Margit says
@Ashraf M Ibrahim: Thank you!

New member ,as so far attended 3 Events (Inter nations )
Hernani Martins says
Hello!
I like the new profile. It is better. Congratulations.
however, it still suffers from an old “disease”… 🙂
It runs maybe 30 times slower than any other application I use or any other social net I use!…
Does anyone else have the same problem?
Is there a reason?
Thanks & Kind Regards,
Hernâni
Margit says
@Hernani Martins:
Thanks for your feedback! We’re glad that you like the new design concept. Please bear in mind, though, that this is only a preview. The new profile page is still under development and hasn’t even been activated yet. So let’s see how the relaunch will influence speed and loading time.
Janean says
I love the new look! Can’t wait to start using it.
Margit says
@Janean:
Thank you! That’s great to hear.
sharad somaia says
looks very promising……
Margit says
@Sharad Somaia:
Thank you! We’re glad to hear this.
Sian says
The ‘About’ is effectively a timeline of where you’ve lived – is that truly an ‘About’ tab? Will you integrate the ability to post images or any activity such as ‘attended X event’ etc. For those who wish to network further, adding a LinkedIn badge might be nice. I’m pleased you’re redesigning the site – it’s looking more modern already! Another thing: if you want more people to feedback on this design, creating an enewsletter which has the link higher up would be useful. Overall, I appreciate the refreshed look and I’m looking forward to seeing more. 🙂
Margit says
@Sian: Thank you for your feedback! I’ll let our Product Dvelopment team about it. Higher cross-connectivity with other social media sites, such as LinkedIn, seems to be important to quite a few people.
Gloria says
Dear Internations staff,
Thanks and congratulations for taking our opinion into consideration. Well done.
Most of what I’d say has already been said.
Still, as many others, I’m concerned about my private information. I don’t want everyone to know everything about me.
The map is great, it recalls me to the one that hangs in my house. I use different coulours for places where I’ve been, those where I’ve lived in and the ones I’d love to visit some day. May be this could be useful for you too.
As Internations is a good way to meet other people with similar interests, I still miss a tool that helps us see, in a fast and easy way, those members (ok, there are the activity groups, but that’s still too complicated).
I read already that you’re working on the mobile version, so no comments on that.
Can’t wait to see the final result, keep the good work going.
Gloria
Margit says
@Gloria:
Thank you for your detailed feedback!
As for the privacy issues, I can reassure on the following points:
– Most of the information displayed in the profile isn’t mandatory. When you sign up, you’ll be asked to share your name, gender, date of birth, country of residence and country of origin — no timeline information at all. What you want to tell about your previous stays abroad and current life is up to you entirely.

RP Singh says
Wonderful Design….. 🙂
Very well thought off. Would love to get my hand on it..
Keep up the good work. Really Love the Map Feature.
But, the timeline is lacking the details of posts, comments and details about Internations events attended and upcoming.
My best wishes
Margit says
@RP Singh:
Thank you for commenting! Please keep in mind that this is only a member profile – and *not* the startpage. Therefore you can’t see any details about Events & Activities and other features. The profile page is supposed to focus solely on a member’s international “CV”.
Korel says
Too much details like holidays. It makes the view complicated.
Also the durations on the left side made me confused.
Margit says
@Korel:
Thank you for your feedback! I’ll make sure to pass it on.
Moges Mulugeta Amharay says
It’s great to follow up! And I always execute it afterward.

I vote for American English. Most spread workdwide – out of the Commonwealth -.
A White says
I like it. It looks like a mix between Facebook and LinkedIn.
Thinking ahead, the page could get long and unwieldy for someone who travels a lot and has a lot of temp jobs. That could be irritating when scrolling on a phone or tablet.
Margit says
@A White: Thanks for your feedback!
Your concern about long CVs is a very good point. I’ll definitely forward this to our Product Development team.
Anita Fabry says
I thinks looks great and maybe it’s going to be easier to manage, I like the fact that one can share more detailed information (as you wish) and having a bigger profile picture. The general distribution of the page seems appropriate. Will be interesting to start using it!
Margit says
@Anita Fabry:
Thanks a lot for your feedback! We’re happy to hear you like it.
Maria says
Love it. Love the map as the cover picture – I would however like to have there also a map where I come from – not sure whether it is possible to have the cover picture as a moving banner? Anyway the whole design looks great, good job 🙂
Margit says
@Maria: Thanks for your nice feedback! As for your suggestion with the map, we aren’t planning a moving banner or other animation at the moment – sorry!
Tracy Glenn says
I like the added feature of past international experiences 🙂
Margit says
@Tracy:

sally says
its a good timeline. i especially like the details and the reception you get at the first glance. however i think in relation to the country one is from, there should at least be an image of an indigenous thing in the region. for example if its Seychelles, a palm tree
regards
Margit says
@Sally: Thanks for your feedback! I’ll pass it on to our Product Development team.
Gary says
Great new look. It also needs to be quick to load and Ipad and Smartphone friendly.
Margit says
@Gary: Thanks for commenting! We are definitely working on a version that’s more user-friendly for mobile devices.
Sohaib says
very nice compared to what we have at the moment.
Margit says
@Sohaib: Thank you for the positive feedback! Our Product Development team will be happy to hear it.
Joe Arens says
Hi Margit
Your web site’s spell check devise currently spell checks using American and not British English. As a Germany company in the EU the language of communication across borders is British English. Also, some sixty countries use English as their main language, whereas only two use American. So, is there any chance that the new web site can use British English, and not American within its spell checking facility – please?
Many thanks
Joe
Margit says
@Joe Arens: Thanks for your feedback concerning the spelling issue! I’ll pass it on to my co-workers.
Neil says
Cool! like it
Margit says
@Neil: Thanks a lot! Glad you like.
Andrea says
Hi,
I love the new design, it makes every member’s international experience easier to read, which his indeed why I’m on this website.
I wonder whether it is going go be possible to browse among a contact’s contacts in order to fond other people I met.
Thanks
Andrea
Margit says
@Andrea: Thanks for commenting! It’s great to hear you like the new design.
I’ll forward your suggestion about contacts of contacts to our Product Development team for their idea pool.

It’s fantastic. Although it would be great if there was a phone app for easier access. Keep up the great work we all appreciate the effort put into redesigning the site.
Margit says
