I missed a private washing machine so much in the first month of my stay in Denmark that I was very close to go back home only because of that! It took me all month long to buy a washing machine and get it installed in the apartment. it is a very small thing unless you loose it, that I still cannot believe in! Otherwise i’m missing soups for the lunch time and a car. Bycicle is probably a good thing to have but not together with Scandinavian climate!

I missed my morning routines, coffee, toast and jam. I Chinese photojournalist and live in a remote coastal town on Hainan Island inn the South China Sea. My first year I thought I would lose my mind from isolation and lonliness. So, I stopped feeling sorry for what I missed and opened a B&B. I fix a good old American breakfast for me and my guests and have wonderful conversation over coffee and hot muffins. Running this little Inn for the past 5 years has saved my life AND my bi-cultural marriage!

Brien – oh yes, the American diners, how I miss them too! Where are you living now? Perhaps you can open an American diner there and get all the coffee, pancakes, eggs and bacon you want!

Marije – True, Spain needs to implement more bike paths! I guess it isn’t a country where one rides around on bikes to get from point A to point B doing daily things…
Never heard of tomato, olive oil and toast breakfast though, sounds interesting, I’ll have to try it out sometime!!

Thanks to you both for your comments! I hope things go well and you two don’t miss home too much!

    Have a great day,

I miss the bike paths from Holland….maybe silly, but I loved the freedom of not having to take the car for everything, move freely and catch some fresh air. Luckily for me here in M

24-hour breakfast diners. Eating breakfast that isn’t overpriced and requires you to be at some hotel or Irish pub is just nonexistent outside America. I don’t miss a lot, but I sorely miss my pancakes, bacon, eggs and all-I-can-drink coffee at 2 a.m. That said, the rest of the day’s food is perfectly fine here.
