As part of the upcoming InterNations Relaunch, your individual member profile will also get a “face-lift”, so to speak.
Your new InterNations profile will strongly focus on what makes you a global mind: your personal expat experience and your international life and career.
What’s new?
In the new timeline, you can share your international history. Describe all your stays abroad, as well as your time back in your home country!
Be it work, travel, or other reasons for moving and visiting: you can use this feature to indicate where you have been, how long you lived there, and why you relocated.
The big world map in the header helps to visualize your timeline. It points out where you are right now and highlights every country where you have stayed so far.
Have your say!
The image below is just a first glance at the brand-new InterNations profile. To see the screenshot in full size, please click on the image!
Please take a look at this preview and let us know what you think. Just leave your feedback in a comment below.
What do you like about it? What could we do differently?

Thank you very much for giving us your feedback! Please understand that we cannot reply to each of you individually. However, we will read every comment and do our best to accommodate your feedback.
Heidi says
Hi, it looks nice, fresh & clean.
Congrats to this makeover! 🙂
Margit says
@Heidi: Thanks for your nice feedback on our “makeover”!
Emily says
I’m excited for the upcoming improvements!
As a very new member of the site, I was confused about how to communicate about where I currently reside, versus where I hope to move to. This new layout seems to have solved that problem! Information is displayed clearly and quickly. Nicely done! Thank you!
Margit says
@Emily: Thank you for the feedback! Good to hear that the new design works for you.
Isidoro Rodriguez says
Greetings,
I like the new web page format. Much easier on the eyes/brain to read and review the experience of each member. Given the unique make-up of members and their respective international experience, I suggest adding a section to permit discussions by members on issues of substance which affect all ex-pats, i.e. tax analysis, gov’t policies, judicial decision. Perhaps even working groups designed to have an effect on bad government polices.
Margit says
@Isidoro Rodriguez: Thanks for your feedback on our new design concept and for your interesting suggestion!
Danuta says
Nice .. I like the colors and the map feture and looking forward to using it soon . Good luck 🙂
Margit says
@Danuta:
Thank you! That’s great to hear.
Sam says
Great! Thanks to everyone has an influence on bringing this wonderful upgrade!
Margit says
@Sam: Thank you! Our Product Development team will be happy to hear it.
Khemiri Med Ali says

your big effort really
Margit says
@Khemiri Med Ali:
Thanks for your nice feedback! We will of course keep you informed about the ongoing relaunch.
Kahtan says
For me as Yemeni architect , we need to share our experiences ,culture ,knowledge,with others of our colleague from other cultures and nations,round the world.
For that i was very happy Internation began this action.
Margit says
@Kahtan: Thank you for sharing your opinion! I’m glad to hear you found InterNations helpful.
Reza Moussavi says
Dear InterNations Team,
With thanks for your efforts, the new profile looks very nice and I’d like to have a suggestion for friends invitation.
It would be great if you consider a tool by asking username and password of Yahoo, Google, Skype, …etc and provide a list of contacts in order to enable profile owner for sending invitation to his / her friends for joining InterNations.
Good luck!
Reza Moussavi
Margit says
@Reza:
Thanks a lot for your suggestions! I’ll definitely forward it to the Product Development team for their “idea pool”.
Margit says
@Peter:
Thanks for the feedback! And yes, there will still be privacy settings, and most of the profile information is purely optional anyway.
Margit says
@Sonia:
Thanks for your feedback! I’m sorry that the new design doesn’t work that well for you.
Margit says
@Vincent Solomon Aliama:
Thank you very much for your honest feedback! I will make sure to include your suggestions about more payment options and social media plug-in in the idea pool for our Product Development team.
As for the other issues, non-technical that you raise: if you have any concerns or complaints, could you please write a mail to [email protected]? Thank you!
Alexis Swete says
It looks great. Very eye catching.
Margit says
@Alexis Swete:
Thank you! Glad to hear you like it.
Margit says
@Natalija Princeva:
Thank you for your suggestions! I’ll make sure to forward your them to our Product Development team for their “idea pool”. However, I can already tell you that Activity Groups should still be visible on a member’s profile. This screensho fades out at the bottom, where interests and Activity Groups should be listed, from what I have seen so far.
Margit says
@Cinamon:
Thanks for commenting! Your input is much appreciated.
There seems to be a general trend towards “personal timelines” on a variety of social networks. If there are any similarities between different sites, this should rather make the user experience easier.
Margit says
@Magali Douteaud:
Thank you for your comment! We’re glad you like it.
I think that there is a general trend in social networks towards “member chronologies”, so to speak. If there any similarities between different sites, we hope that familiar concepts will make the general usability easier too.
Margit says
@Tomoko Stacey:
Thank you for your honest feedback! Please be aware, though, that this is only the profile page. As a network, we obviously aren’t Facebook, nor do we want to be. I think that InterNations has a very different focus and different stengths.
willy coppyn says
your new concept is good
better than before
Margit says
@willy coppyn:
Thank you! It’s nice to hear the new profiledesign works obviously well for you.
Terly says
near to facebook great development
Margit says
@Terly:
Thanks for your feedback! I think there is a general trend towards “chronoligical/timeline design” on social networking sites, and any similarities just help to enhance usability across the internet.
Ali Hadi says
It’s looks great outlook, “superb outlook”
Ali Hadi
Margit says
@Ali Hadi:
Thanks for the feedback! We really appreciate it.
Margit says
@Frans Beckers: Thank you! We’re glad to hear you like it so much.
Margit says
@David Geradts:
We are working on a mobile-friendly version of InterNations. This is extremely important to us!
Margit says
@Yvette:
Thanks for commenting! I’ll forward your feedback on a “colour-coded” map to our Product Development team to take into consideration. It’s certainly an interesting idea!
Margit says
@Cheryl Asvang:
If you would like to participate in the beta test, please sign up here. Thank you!
Margit says
@Maria:
Thank you for sharing your humble opinion with us! 🙂
I will definitely pass on your suggestion to our Product Development team, who are still working on the optimal way to present our members’ international history. It seems that the “visiting” feature is a bit divisive: Some commenters here love it, and some don’t like it very much.
But please keep in mind that our members use InterNations in different ways: Some see it as a professional networking tool, and others appreciate it or socializing and sharing interests/leisure activities.
In any case, thanks again for your feedback. We very much appreciate it.
Margit says
@Inamullah Ansari:
Thank you! We are very glad to hear that.
Miguel says
It would be great to have a section like “You might have meet this member in …” showing the events you where both attending.
Similar ones would be showing the contacts or activity groups that you both share.
Margit says
@Miguel:
Thank you for your feedback! I can assure you that Activity Groups will be still shown on a member’s profile page: they aren’t visible on this screenshot since the images fades out at the bottom, but as far as I know, they should be included.
But I will forward all your suggestions and ideas to our Product Development team. Thank for the input.
Margit says
@Barbara Nakaahiki:
Thank you! We’re glad to hear the profile page design works for you.
Margit says
@Bette Drummond:
Thanks for commenting! I’m glad to hear you like the new design. Obviously, it shouldn’t only help our members to tell their story (the “vanity page” aspect that you mention, but also invite other members to connect with them, based on shared history or interests!
Margit says
@Baroma Madomba:
Thank you! It’s nice to hear you like the design.
Margit says
@Ina Niemann:
Thank you for your input!
Just checking to make sure I pass along the right info to my colleagues in Product Development: Are you talking about the font size in the blog or the font size in the screenshot design above? As far as I know, the font type in the new profile page is actually the same that we have always had on InterNations. Have you previously had any trouble with this, too?
Margit says
@Peter O’Neill:
Thank you for your comment and your detailed input on our photography contests!
I think you raise some excellent points, but I’m afraid that I am not among the team members responsible for our Activity Groups section. Could you please get in touch with your contact person in the Activity Groups team directly? I’m sure they’ll appreciate your feedback. Thank you!
Margit says
@William Calva:
Thanks for the positive feedback! We’re happy to hear you like the design for the new profile page.
Per Ostberg says
I think the “draft” is great! It gives a very quick and interesting overview of a person in a glance!
Margit says
@Per Ostberg:
Thanks for your comment! It’s nice to hear that you like the new design so well.
Nic Balboa says
The face lift looks good…
Main concerns are privacy, security. fraud and identity theft.
As we all know facebook does not protect the personal info of their members very well…
I hope you will be different.
When the mobile app is released I hope it will work on IOS & Android.
Thank you!
Margit says
@ Nic Balboa:
Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your concerns! I hope the following information will be helpful:
– Most of the profile information is purely optional. It’s not necessary to fill it in if you aren’t comfortable with sharing so much about yourself.
– If you do decide to share more, there will still be privacy settings available.
– The profiles aren’t visible for external visitors or Google.
– Please consider this with caution as I am not a lawyer: However, as a Munich-based company, InterNations is subject to German data protection laws, which rather tend to be on the stricter side.
The mobile-friendly version should be accessible for both types of smartphones.
Cheryl says
I found this very interesting and innovative.
Margit says
@Cheryl:
Thank you! We’re happy that the new profile page design works for you.
pushpenderkaushik says
It really looks great. Please try to make it more user friendly as possible.
good work and keep it up.
Margit says
@ pushpenderkaushik:
Thank you for your nice comment! Our Product Development and IT teams are working really hard on providing you with enhanced usability and design.
Nicolas Diaz says
Hi There.
I would like a change in communication and can talk with any member in any country and have it as a contact? do it now ….(Y) a waiting LIST for the EVENTS…
Margit says
@Nicolas Diaz:
Thanks for commenting! However, I’m afraid I don’t quite understand your suggestion for a “change in communication”. Do you perhaps mean an InterNations chat feature?
As for the waiting list for events, I agree that it would be useful to have. I’ll make sure to forward that suggestion to the “idea pool” for our Product Development department.
Ben Selma Fredj says
c’est beau et ça avance chez Inter nations, Félicitations
Margit says
@Ben Selma Fredj:
Merci beaucoup for ton commentaire! 🙂
Lex van Buuren says
Badly needed (I think): a waiting list for the events. 🙂
Margit says
@Lex van Buuren:
Thank you for your suggestion! This is a helpful idea, and I’ll definitely pass it along to our Product Development department.
DAWOOD BHATTY says
Its a great new look and approach. Seeing the valuable comments and suggestions by other members, I doubt I could add much, so wish you good luck with the launch and if any kinks do occur, I’m sure your team will smoothen them effectively.
Margit says
@Dawood Bhatty: Thank you very mch for your nice comment and your kind wishes! It’s much appreciated.
rita jaskolla says
I like the display of the world atlas with the ability to mark all places the person has been to. It is a great overview of the worldwide expertise and it shows new goals like where someone plans to go next.
As much as this format shows details about the past, which is XING-profile like, it has no room detailed room for the future and goals! Talking about the past doesn´t create each others future. It is just 1 chance to get in touch with others but one cannot read anything about the plan(s) of the prospect.
I very much llike the flags the new profile shows!
Good luck with the up-dates and have success with the result!
With my best regards,
rita jaskolla
Margit says
@Rita Jaskolla:
Thank you for your detailed input! With the new timeline concept, we are indeed mainly trying to accurately represent our members’ international history. However, we are addressing their plans for the future at least somewhat in the “planning to live in / visit” field. But I’ll definitely forward your feedback to our Product Development team – at the moment, we are still collecting ideas and comments from this post.
Joe Arens says
Giving your web site a fresh look is certainly a good idea, but it is difficult to improve on something that is already very good.
My only concern is that you do not follow in the footsteps of MSN or Mail.com in that every time they revamp their sites and / or services it takes them weeks to get it working properly.
Otherwise ‘good luck’ and ‘thank you’.
Margit says
@Joe Arens:
Thanks a lot for your kind feedback! We’ll certainly do our very best to bring about a relaunch that’s as smooth as possible. 😀
Maru says
I believe that there are a couple of issues to be address:
1) The privacy of the page is extremely important as we are sharing private information of the members… This has to be with consent and ensure that this information will not be shared with 3rd parties
2) The information on where I will go shouldn’t appear… This is in general problematic as you are releasing information of long leave or absence from your house to strangers…
3) What is the major objective of Internations? to network from a professional point of view… so it has to have more things related to that rather than where I have been or will be (unless it’s something related to my job, e.g. I am a marketing professional looking for opportunities in country X / looking for partners in business Y…
4) Having a better access from Web/ mobiles is critical… My experience with the previous site was not good, it takes too long to complete your membership…
Regards
Maru
Margit says
@Maru:
Thank you very much for your detailed input!
1) Most of the information displayed on our profile page design is purely optional. Furthermore, there will indeed be privacy settings for sharing (or not sharing) said information.
2) I see your point, and I’ll definitely pass it on. However, I personally don’t think it should be an actual problem. “Planning to visit…” is fairly vague – we’d never link it with a specific date!
3) Some of our members use InterNations for professional networking; for others, it’s mostly about socializing or leisure. However, I think what distinguishes us from a career network like LinkedIn, for examole, is indeed the international focus of its memberbase, and our “expat timeline” is supposed to reflect just this.
4) We are working on a mobile-friendly version and this is very important to us!
Dr. Alick Richard says
Its excellent , What ever it so , a copy of FB/ twitter it
doesn’t matter, but seems to be very much user friendly.
As well as bringing all information on a single platform
easy to view.
Margit says
@Alick Richard:
Thank you very much for your feedback! We’re glad to hear you like the new design and find the future profile page more user-friendly.
Nadine E. Nassar says
It would be great if we could read message and mark them as unread and be able to reply to them later.
It would be nice as well if we could add more than one picture to places.
Margit says
@Nadine E. Nassar:
Thank you for your suggestions! I’ll forward them to our Product Development team to take into consideration. They are also working on a new messaging feature right now, so I’m sure they will be interested in your input.
Stella says
I am concerned about the amount of information being demanded. I thought the previous site was heavily intrusive. This one demands even more information. The question I ask myself is, who then has access to this information???
It creeps me to think that I would voluntarily provide information to an unknown probably unlimited audience about where I have been and where I intend to go to!!!!
In the event that it is made optional I can see a situation where we will have empty profiles.
If a new platform is to be created let it be such that only necessary information is provided anything else that anyone wants to know about members can be discussed on a one on one basis during our get togethers!!!!
Margit says
@Stella:
Thank you for your input!
Please be assured that most of the information shown on the screenshot is optional. We obviously came up with as many details as possible in order to give our designers something to work with. Apart from basic information, such as name, gender, country of origin and country of residence, you can opt to fill in as much or as little as you like.
Moreover, there will be privacy settings for sharing the information you do choose to include in your profile.
I hope that helps!
Wale Akintola says
Its awesome and more interesting than before, much easy to access but am concern about given out more details of your personal information to strangers. There should be a way to protect information and limit personal information.
Will also like it if there is an avenue where one can chat online with other InterNations to give room for more interaction and to get to know each other more. So it will be good to add InterNations chats to it.
Margit says
@Wale Akintola:
Thank you for your comment! We do take privacy concerns seriously, and I can assure you that we will address these concerns.
– The information on the profile page is largely optional (except for basic information such as name, gender, country of origin and country of residence). You can fill out as much or as little as you want.
– The profiles aren’t accessible to external visitors or search engines.
– We will keep privacy settings for your personal information.
Hope that helps!

Thank you for your feedback! We’re sorry to hear that the new profile design doesn’t work that well for you.
