The InterNations team, based in Munich, decided that it was time to play hard after working so hard this year! Our founders Malte Zeeck and Philipp von Plato took us out to Ammersee near Munich and surprised us with a host of fun and challenging activities, both for the mind and body!
Our day at the so-called “InterNations Summer Olympics” began by leaving work a little early and bounding into the S-Bahn towards Ammersee. With much excited chitter chatter in the subway we arrived at a beautiful beach and grass area by the lake. It is important to keep in mind while reading this, that we poor Münchner had no summer to speak of as of yet – this was, although already mid-August, the team’s first successful attempt at combining the planned “InterNations Summer Olympics” with warm weather!
Philipp greeted us with a table full of delicious fresh fruit and plenty of water, as well as 4 clipboards on which 4 teams were neatly listed! It was all about team spirit! In the warm sunny afternoon 4 teams competed against each other in several brain teasers, sporty activities, and some silly my-tummy-huts-because-I-am-laughing-so-hard stunts!
Between the obligatory beach volleyball matches came an air bed race in the water, a cherry pit spitting contest, and a little game called “Blinde Kuh” (blind man’s buff). The InterNations team as a whole proved to be quite multi-talented: great volleyball players, excellent cherry pit spitters (record lies at 10m 80 cm), super fast air bed racers, and an almost Guinness Book of World Records worthy 4min 12sec blind man’s buff walk!
A bit of creativity was also involved when the team members were requested to compose InterNations theme songs, which were presented later on in the evening to a chorus of applause and laughter!
We finished off the long day of games and sunshine with a delicious and ample barbeque feast!
Now, satisfied with our hard play at the “InterNations Summer Olympics”, we are all back in the office ready to welcome fall and a successful last quarter of 2011!
