Off Duty: Six Stances on Sustainability in the InterNations Team

Does sustainability play a major role in your personal life? Do you eat only locally grown food, compost organic household waste, and ride your bike everywhere? Or are you fairly new to this topic and find such behavior a bit puzzling?

InterNations introduced our Sustainability Initiative in January 2020, and we officially became a carbon-neutral company about a year ago. Looking back at this milestone, we were interested in what individual team members think about this issue. We’ve asked six of them how they view sustainability in general and what role, if any, it plays in their life. The resulting range of opinions is rather wide — and hopefully thought provoking.

Earth Day: The Perfect Time to Take Climate Action

For more than a year, international news headlines have been dominated by COVID-19. Despite the ongoing global health crisis, we shouldn’t forget about another pressing issue: the climate crisis. When life around the world finally goes back to normal, we probably shouldn’t go back to business as usual in every respect. The carbon clock is ticking, and it’s time for climate action. The sooner, the better.

In honor of Earth Day (22 April), we have taken action too, joining the LFCA campaign for Earth Day 2021. LFCA is short for Leaders for Climate Action, an initiative by hundreds of digital entrepreneurs who want to share and spread their vision of a sustainable economy. “My co-CEO Philipp and I are committed to taking a stance on climate action, and we are proud members of the Leaders for Climate Action community,” says InterNations Founder & Co-CEO Malte.

Behind the Scenes: Zero Waste Month at InterNations

In 1974, 5 June became World Environment Day, established by the UN to encourage worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. That’s why today is the perfect occasion to present an update on the Sustainability Initiative at InterNations. In May, we organized our first theme month to get the team involved. “Be our hero — be waste zero!” was our motto. Here, we’re going to give you an overview of our activities for Zero Waste Month, as well as plenty of advice on how to reduce waste, both at home and at the office.
