Last friday the InterNations members of the Geneva Community spent an evening dedicated to the humanitarian field. It was a perfect occasion to get to know other people working in the humanitarian sector and mingle with those members that are working in other fields like business and finance.  Special thanks to our Local Ambassador Alexander Vierheilig for taking the photos. After a stylish get-together at Chateau d’ Ouchy and Arthur’ s in Geneva the InterNations Comunity warmed up for the rest of the winter with latin music, nachos, sangria, cocktails and more at the most mexican of all places in Lausanne: “L’ Esco Bar”.

Recently, Alexander Vierheilig, one of our Ambassadors in the Geneva Lake Area, hosted not one but two events for the members of ‘his’ community. At the end of November, a large crowed met up at the rustic tapas place Soleil Rouge, for an authentic Spanish experience with appetizers, fingerfood and at least 12 different wines from the Iberian peninsula.

Several days later, however, the following Get-Together was targeted at a more specialized group of participants. Geneva being the seat of many humanitarian organizations such as the UNHCR or the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Alexander — who’s a medical doctor himself — thought it only fitting to invite everybody working or strongly interested in the humanitarian field. At Da Vinci’s Lounge Bar, they could share their thoughts and experiences, ideas and commitment.

Last Saturday, unexpected sports talents among our InterNations members had a chance to shine when Céline Fressart, one of our Ambassadors near Lac Leman, invited them to the first IN bowling competition in Switzerland. After they’d refuelled their energy with a dinner at La Praille shopping centre, the battle to become an icon of the slopes began. Two hours later, Habib Lopez-Perales emerged triumphant as the new InterNations champion. A smaller group of those who wanted to celebrate his victory (or who wanted to drown the disappointment at their own defeat) left for a few drinks afterwards, staying at a nearby bar until half past one in the morning…

The old adage that art should both educate and delight was once more proved true by the InterNations Geneva Community last Friday, on September 12. Our Ambassador Alexander Vierheilig had invited his guests to participate in a vernissage at the Salon de l’art accessible, a travelling exhibition aimed at introducing modern and contemporary art to a wider audience. This drew the attention of quite a few newcomers, who attened an InterNations event for the first time, and enjoyed sampling both the aesthetic pleasures at the salon and the culinary joys at a cheery bar afterwards.

The InterNations Community of the Geneva Lake Area were exceedingly lucky when they set out for a picknick and a barbecue. Local host Nicolas Duret helped the newcomers at this meeting to discover a more hidden, but indeed wonderful part of lovely Switzerland: the idyllic Vallée de Joux, a beautiful Jura valley in the canton of Vaud. The sun was also smiling upon them for an entire Sunday afternoon in August, and some very courageous members even tried a swim in the mountain lake. For the less daring guests, Ambassador Céline Fressart had come up with the fabulous suggestion to have an international potluck dinner: Each ‚world citizen‘ among the invitees brought along a specialty from their native country – spare ribs and brownies for the USA, a spinach tarte recipe from Argentina, Austrian goulash, cheese and chocolate parfait from Switzerland, and many more. Mmm, delicious!
