On Thursday, February 5, a nice bunch of InterNations members met again in the Greek restaurant Avli. The atmosphere was great and cosy. Particularly, the owners delivered a round of Ouzo and later took out their instruments to sing for their “special international guests”. They all stayed till closing…

The InterNations Community Bochum (Ruhr Area) met on January 6th  in the Livingroom. They were a small, but nice group of people. Apart from Tanzania and Croatia, someone came the long way from Iserlohn in order to spend the evening with them. They had not only delicious food but also enjoyable, serious and fun conversations.

 

After the last “Bochum Bowling & Board Games” event in the German Ruhr Area had proven quite popular, our local Ambassador Constanze Hahn and InterNations member Nikola Stiasni set out to recreate the fantastic mood of that September evening. On the first weekend in December, they gathered again at Summa Cum Laude sports bar , with guests from Italy, Croatia, Germany, Albania, Turkey and the US organizing an impromptu bowling competition over a beer or two and playing on until midnight.

The members of the Ruhr Area Community were in for a big surprise when they attended the latest local Get-Together on October 30. As Ambassador Constanze Hahn was away on holidays this month, Nikola Stiasni had kindly agreed to organize a night out in Bochum in her stead. However, apart from the group of expats from Brazil, Italy, Turkey, Croatia, and Slovakia who turned up at the event, Constanze, too, was among the guests: Having come back to Germany a short time before, she spontaneously decided to join the rest for a gemütliches German-style dinner at Restaurant Ullrich, together with Boston Ambassador Emre Basar (who still looks a bit jet-lagged next to Constanze, poor guy…).

After the members of the InterNations Community in the Ruhr Area had such fun at their board games night earlier this month, Ambassador Constanze Hahn decided to follow up on this success with an invitation to a German ‚Kegelbahn‘ (i.e. bowling alley) on September 23. At the Summa Cum Laude sports bar, near the campus of Bochum University, the expats and locals first practised a bit of bowling on the track before they decided on a more competitive approach.

In the battle of teams ‚Inter‘ vs. ‚Nations‘, the ‚Inter‘ camp triumphed. Instead of insisting on a rematch, everyone then played individually before the alley closed – and all moved to the restaurant upstairs, where they played chess until they were thrown out at closing time, around midnight…

A few guests started out rather skeptical when our Ambassador for the Ruhr Area, Constanze Hahn, wanted to try a new format for the InterNations events and invited them for an evening of billiards and board games at the lounge bar Freibad on September 9. However, that initial skepticism quickly vanished into thin air, as chess, scrabbles and billiards turned out to be a perfect way for members old and new to get to know each other, play together, talk together and laugh together. So, no matter who triumphed in the various games, everyone ended up a winner that night.
