Our April Get-Together in Berlin took place in the impressive building of “Die Botschaft von Berlin”, a truly extraordinary club lounge, where we could enjoy the sunset on the terrace. Enjoying the mellow background music and some nice drinks, we could meet offline to share ideas, talk about our expat experiences and even watch some members excelling at tango and Greek dancing.

There was also a place set up especially for a photoshoot: There the photographer Daniel Bubeck took some lovely pictures we would like to share with you. Many thanks also to Yannis for his energy and to Alex for inviting us to gather at “The Nest of Global Minds”

The Berlin InterNations Community set a new record for themselves: About 150 people flocked to their latest Get-Together in late October, hosted by our Ambassadors Isabel von Kap-herr and Mario Paladini high over Tauentzien Square. Most guests were quite enthusiastic over the new venue, Puro Sky Lounge, an intimate club on the 20th floor of the Europa Center, with a fantastic view of Berlin’s glittering nightly skyline.

All right, strictly speaking, nobody – neither an anointed monarch nor a Pope – was actually enthroned on the night of September 25; however, it was the first official InterNations event in the German capital that was hosted not only by our Berlin Ambassador Isabel von Kap-herr, but also by her newly appointed Co-Ambassador Mario Paladini. The Argentinian IT consultant, who has been living in Berlin for over a year now, will help Isabel to organize local life in this exciting city. Lots of members were apparently curious to get to know Mario as well as each other because our Ambassadors seemed very satisfied with the turnout of the Get-Together, the atmosphere at Riva Bar and the memories of an enjoyable evening.

Autumn seems to have arrived in Germany already, bringing along its more unpleasant aspects such as dreary weather and cool rain. Therefore, the plans of our Berlin community (who now meet regularly every last Thursday of the month) to bid August a fond farewell with a picnic outside on the 28th of August were unfortunately thawarted; however, the InterNations members gathering around Friedrich Rojahn (a regular at these events, taking over for our poor Ambassador Isabel von Kap-herr, who’d suddenly become ill) didn’t let their bad luck spoil their mood. Instead, various expats from Chile, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Great Britain, India, Morocco, Poland, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the USA as well as locals from Berlin all expressed a keen interest in meeting up for an excellent cocktail at Victoriabar, a bohemian retro-style hang-out in the Schöneberg neighbourhood; they enjoyed their time indoors every bit as much as the open-air event originally planned. The last ‘die-hard’ party-goers left at two o’clock in the morning in search for a near-by club for the rest of the night…
